But, back to National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Month…

One of our very own, Pamela, walks with the MS Society each year to raise awareness for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Her sister and niece both live with this debilitating disease every day.

According to the MS Society website,

“A new study published in the February 2019 online issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, has confirmed that nearly 1 million people are living with MS in the United States, more than twice the previously reported number.”

What is MS?

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. The cause of MS is still unknown – scientists believe the disease is triggered by an as-yet-unidentified environmental factor in a person who is genetically predisposed to respond.

The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease.

And currently, there is no known cure.

The mission statement of the MS Society is…

“People affected by MS can live their best lives as we stop MS in its tracks, restore what has been lost and end MS forever.”

The National MS Society is Prosper Insurance Center’s “Charity of the Quarter” for the 1st Quarter of 2019. Please join us on April 13th as we walk with Pamela and her team to help find a cure.
